Timken Learning To Play....with Neon

I know you have been curious how Timken has been doing with a puppy in the house here is an update for you! Tim has had his worried times, sharing his foster parent's affection, a new dog in the house to get used to, someone sharing the dog beds of the house. But really he is doing quite well. A lot of this is due to the fact that Neon has really nice dog-dog skills, in fact she doesn't bother any of the dogs in the house. If she tries to play and they don't want to she moves on. She does not get in their face and bug them like some of the past puppies we have fostered. I am happy to report that Neon was a champ with him as they worked through Tim's initial barking and awkward *play* and after a very short time they were really having a nice time. This is so wonderful for Tim to have positive, playful experiences with other dogs as he had been tormented by some of the other dogs in his original home and has a big mistrust of dogs a lot of the time.

This was the very first time they attempted play, I happened to have my video camera in my pocket so could record it. You can tell Neon is nervous about the way Tim is barking and moving, her tail between her legs, but I was right there to make sure it didn't go south and in a real short time they were getting it figured out together.

In this video Tim is still a bit over the top with her, but he starts to open up and run around the stump and then they both get into running together. Still awkward but better. This is real time so we are just a little over a minute total from the start of the play.

This was fun to watch, the two dogs taking turns chasing each other. They ended up doing this for about 15 minutes.

The next day I was able to record Tim and Neon in a different type of play in the house. This was so nice to see them engaging. Neon has also played with our dogs, Birdie and Skip. She would play more if the house dogs wanted to.

Neon and Timken on the big dog bed together. Such sweet doggies!

Timken and I want to say thank you to everyone who has checked in with me asking about how he has been doing. I have more posts coming with Tim and his progress in foster care. He is a special boy and in the right adoptive home he is going to make someone a very good companion.  He still has to go slow, but his resilience and recovery from new and scary situations is coming quicker and quicker as he builds his confidence on small step at a time.
